Shrewsbury School

Originally the 'Orphan School' A house for the reception of foundlings from the Foundling Hospital at London, was first opened in Dog Lane in the year 1759 until this large and pleasant building was erected on the bank of the Severn, opposite the Quarry. Begun in 1760 and finished in five years and was used until the London Hospital stopped sending any more children.
The building cost at that time  £12,000.00 to erect.
